EX03

Italy·Belgian Strong Golden Ale
Tap to rate

EX03 is the roundest beer in Birrone's EX series: a strong ale by definition and Belgian by inspiration. Unlike its Belgian models it is brewed entirely from malt, without added sugar, and the residual sweetness this leaves shapes both the aroma and a soft, full palate. Blonde in colour and top-fermented, it reaches 7.2 %.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with soft, malty sweetness—honey and light grain notes dominate without sharp edges. Subtle fruit esters from the top fermentation suggest white wine and stone fruit undertones. Noble hops provide a refined, herbal backbone that balances the residual sweetness without claiming dominance.

◐ Taste

The palate enters round and full, with the malt-driven sweetness immediately apparent and integrated throughout. Mid-palate warmth builds gently from the 7.2% ABV, while noble hops deliver restrained bitterness—25 IBU is low, allowing malt character to lead. The finish dries gradually rather than sharply, maintaining a soft texture to the end.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste lingers with malt-derived sweetness and a gentle, warming alcohol note. Bitterness fades quickly, leaving the impression of a beer designed for contemplation rather than refreshment.

Warmer than most — 12–14°C. The fruity esters, spice and warming alcohol need room to breathe.

Goblet

The wide mouth and heavy base promote head formation and channel rich aromatics toward the nose. Traditional for Belgian strong ales.
