Wellington Brewery has been brewing in Guelph, Ontario since 1985, part of the first wave of small independent breweries permitted under changed provincial law. Founder Phil Gosling set out to bring English-style cask-conditioned real ale to a market held by large national brewers. The brewery has remained independently owned since. Several of the original recipes still anchor the core lineup, among them Special Pale Ale, County Brown Ale and Arkell Best Bitter, joined by lagers, an imperial stout and a rotating small-batch series. Around a third of the hops come from Ontario farms and most of the malt is grown in Canada.
