In 1858 the business was rebuilt as a modern steam brewery, the date the company treats as its founding, and it has carried the Villacher name and the city's coat of arms since 1900. Long part of the Vereinigte Kärntner Brauereien, it passed fully to Brau Union Österreich in 2015. In May 2026 a new, smaller city brewery opened on the historic site in the Brauhausgasse.
