The Bruery was founded in 2008 by Patrick Rue in Placentia, Orange County; the name joins the word brewery with the family name Rue. The house brews barrel-aged imperial stouts, Belgian-inspired ales and sour beers, most of them fermented with its own Belgian yeast strain and sold through member societies and a direct shop. Since 2017 a private equity firm holds the majority. Sour beers once came from the Bruery Terreux site in Anaheim, hoppy canned beers run under the Offshoot label, and a second tasting room operates in Meridian, Idaho.
