Known for a full range of styles

Privat-Brauerei Zötler is a family brewery in Rettenberg in the Oberallgäu. Its exact age cannot be established: three fires, the last in 1917, destroyed nearly all of its records. Tradition put the founding in 1447, a date the house itself used until 2022, when it had historians review the history and stated that the sources do not support it. The Zötler name arrived when brewer Herbert Zötler married into the Müller brewing family; in 1920 he and Andreas Müller formed a company to run the brewery together. Today the Zötler and Müller families hold the shares jointly, and Niklas Zötler has managed the business since 2018. The range centres on Export, Helles, wheat beers and a Dunkel, joined by Bock and festival beers in season.

How we measure this

Two thresholds are at work here:

  • The signature list shows notes that recur in at least 6% of this brewery's beers. A low bar — enough to flag a pattern, not high enough to call it an exclusive trait.
  • The peer comparison below shows only notes where this brewery's coverage differs from similar breweries by at least 20 percentage points. A higher bar — enough to call a real difference, not a nudge.

A note can appear on the signature list without appearing in the peer comparison: it recurs here, but similar breweries do the same thing.
