The brewery now known as the Hanseatische Brauerei Rostock was founded on 28 March 1878, when engineers Georg Mahn and Friedrich Ohlerich acquired the Julius Meyer brewery at auction and established Mahn & Ohlerich OHG. The new enterprise invested quickly in modern brewing technology and by 1880 had its own malting facility; by the turn of the century it was producing over 100,000 hectolitres of beer annually. The company was renamed the Hanseatische Brauerei Rostock on the occasion of its 125th anniversary in 2003. It is now part of the Radeberger Group within the Oetker Group, while the historic Mahn & Ohlerich Pils brand continues alongside the Rostocker range.
