Hannen is one of the traditional Altbier brands of the Lower Rhine. The brand traces itself back to 1725, when the Hausmann family took over an existing brewhouse in Willich; the later company was Germany's largest Altbier producer in the mid-1980s, and Carlsberg bought it in 1988. Since April 2022 the name has belonged to the independent Bolten brewery, and since February 2023 the beers have been brewed and bottled in Korschenbroich, the town where the former Hannen headquarters still stands.
