🌍 Germany · Altbier · One of 29 Altbiers in hopIQ

Hannen Alt has been brewed by Bolten in Korschenbroich since 2023, when the new owner relaunched the brand and dropped the old Hannen fist from its logo. The recipe changed with the move: where the Carlsberg-era beer used barley only, today's Altbier adds wheat to the grist and comes in at 4.8 per cent. Deep, dark brown in the glass, it is built on plenty of roasted malt and a round, full body, balancing sweetness against a firm bitterness, with bread crust and toffee underneath and a dry hop finish.

AI-generated sensory profile for Hannen Alt

◎ Appearance

Deep, dark brown in the glass with a clear, lustrous body. A modest off-white head forms quickly and holds with light retention and delicate lacing. Fine carbonation is evident in its gentle, steady rise.

◌ Aroma

The nose presents a restrained, malty character dominated by roasted grain and subtle bread crust notes. Toffee sweetness emerges beneath, with minimal hop presence—just a dry, earthy undertone that frames rather than dominates the profile.

◐ Taste

A round, full body carries sweetness forward on entry, with toffee and caramel anchoring the mid-palate. A firm bitterness builds gradually, creating counterbalance without harshness, while bread crust notes ground the overall impression. The wheat addition softens the finish slightly without obscuring the roasted malt foundation.

◑ Finish

The finish shifts toward dry, with a dry hop character asserting itself cleanly. The aftertaste fades gently, leaving residual bread crust and a light, lingering bitterness.
