🌍 Germany · Altbier · One of 26 Altbiers in hopIQ

The stronger Altbier, brewed twice a year and tapped at the house Stike evenings in March and October, with occasional bottles in retail. Mahogany brown and clear, it smells of roasted malt and dark chocolate. The palate opens malty, then roast, caramel and coffee move over a strong hop bitterness, and Hallertau Perle and Tradition give a spicy, herbal finish. Brewed with more malt, roasted malt and hops than the regular Alt, to 14 °P, fermented open and matured for longer.

Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced roasted malt and dark chocolate notes, laying a rich foundation. Behind these comes a measured noble hop character—spicy and herbal—from the Hallertau Perle and Tradition varieties. The overall impression is warm and layered, without any sharp or aggressive edges.

Taste

The palate begins with malty sweetness before roasted grain, caramel, and coffee flavors emerge across the mid-palate. A strong, clean hop bitterness builds steadily and integrates with the malt backbone rather than dominating it. The finish is marked by the spicy, herbal character of the noble hops, leaving a long, dry aftertaste.

Finish

The finish is extended and warming, with hop bitterness and herbal spice lingering pleasantly on the palate. A slight dryness persists, inviting another sip without any harsh astringency.
