Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren traces its brewing back to a document of 1308 and is the last of Kaufbeuren's historic breweries. The present site dates from 1807, when a beer cellar was built in the Tänzelhölzchen; the house became a joint stock company in 1885 and merged with the Löwen-Brauerei E. Wiedemann in 1907. Its shares trade on the Munich exchange, while the brewing business sits in a separate operating company majority-owned by the British group ROK Stars. The beers follow the Bavarian purity law and are sold across the Allgäu and Swabia, and abroad under the ABK label.
