🌍 Australia · Double West Coast IPA · One of 5 Double West Coast IPAs in hopIQ

Naturalis Historia is a double West Coast IPA at 8.5% ABV, brewed with Good Land Brewing from Gippsland for IPA Day 2026 as a tribute to the original West Coast blueprint. A stripped-back base of Pilsner malt and flaked rice leaves the stage to Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic. It pours crystal-clear pale gold under a bright white head. Pine, grapefruit, citrus peel and passionfruit fill the aroma. On the palate bold citrus, resin and tropical fruit meet a firm, assertive bitterness that cuts cleanly through, finishing dry and crisp.

Aroma

The nose opens with forward pine and resinous Edelhopfen character from Simcoe and Amarillo, layered with bright grapefruit and citrus peel. Tropical stone fruit—particularly passionfruit—emerges beneath, supported by a clean, neutral Malz foundation that permits the hop expression to dominate. No yeast-derived esters distract; the profile remains linear and varietal.

Taste

Entry brings bold, assertive citrus notes with pronounced resinous grip, immediately establishing the beer's structural intent. The mid-palate sustains tropical fruit character alongside a firm, uncompromising bitterness that cuts decisively through the 8.5% ABV body. A stripped-back Pilsner and flaked rice base provides only minimal sweetness, allowing the Mosaic, Amarillo, and Simcoe to define the experience without interference.

Finish

The finish is dry and crisp, with the bitterness persisting cleanly into the aftertaste without harshness or metallic edges. The drying effect extends through a medium length, leaving the palate refreshed and eager for the next sip.
