🌍 Czech Republic · Czech Premium Pale Lager · One of 19 Czech Premium Pale Lagers in hopIQ

Fest Hořká 12 was launched in September 2025 as a deliberately bitter 12° lager of 5.1 %, which head brewer Pavel Novák describes as a return to the traditional Czech school. It is double-decocted from Czech and Munich malts and hopped three times with Saaz and Sládek. Deep golden in the glass, it combines a full malt body with notes of bread crust and light caramel, a fine herbal and floral hop aroma, brisk carbonation and a pronounced bitterness that lingers well into the finish.

Appearance

Deep golden hue fills the glass with crystalline clarity and bright luminosity. A dense, creamy white head forms on the pour and clings persistently to the glass walls, building fine lacing as the beer is consumed. Brisk carbonation is evident throughout, with a steady stream of fine bubbles rising through the body.

Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced herbal and floral characteristics from the Saaz and Sládek hops, offering delicate spice and subtle perfumed notes. Beneath this sits a solid malt foundation with clean bread crust and light caramel undertones, grounding the composition without obscuring the hop expression. The overall character is refined and restrained, with no fermentation esters or adjunct aromatics competing for attention.

Taste

Entry brings a full, satisfying malt body with pronounced bread crust and subtle caramel sweetness that immediately gives way to a brisk, assertive bitterness. Mid-palate holds the malt structure firm while the noble hop bitterness builds steadily, layering herbal and slightly grassy notes across the palate. The finish drives deep into a clean, lingering bitterness that defines this beer's deliberately sharp character.

Finish

The bitterness persists long into the aftertaste with admirable tenacity, leaving the mouth dry and pleasantly bracing. A subtle malt sweetness fades quickly, allowing the noble hop bitterness to remain the dominant final impression.
