Bosko

Tap to rate

Bosko is the brewery's long-running IPA, on the list since 2013. The brewery describes it as sweeter, maltier and fuller-bodied than its pale ale, dry-hopped generously with American hops and built for balance. Retail tasting notes speak of fresh, fruity hops on the nose and tropical fruit over a malty base, with sweetness and bitterness held level. It still turns up on keg and cask in London pubs and at the taproom, although the online shop does not currently list it.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with fresh American hop character, delivering pronounced tropical fruit notes—pineapple and stone fruit predominate—layered over a clean, supportive malt base. There is no obstruction from yeast or adjuncts; the aroma remains crisp and inviting. The hop presence is generous but remains balanced, complementing rather than overwhelming the underlying malted grain.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with a malty sweetness that provides body and structure, immediately followed by a measured hop bitterness that does not dominate. Mid-palate reveals the promised tropical fruit character—echoing the nose—supported by a fuller mouthfeel than one might expect from a 6.5% beer. Bitterness and sweetness remain in deliberate equilibrium throughout, neither yielding ground to the other.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and moderately dry, with hop bitterness lingering gently without astringency. The aftertaste carries faint tropical notes and a subtle malt warmth, encouraging another sip.

Serve at 8–11°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.

What is a IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same malty, fruity, tropical character as Bosko will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
