White Rat

Tap to rate

White Rat is a very pale ale built on extra pale malt and a heavy charge of American hops. The aroma is intense: grapefruit and other citrus, tropical fruit and a resinous pine note. On the palate it is lean and dry with little malt sweetness, and the bitterness is sharp and lasting, which the brewery itself calls spiky and lip-puckering. First brewed in 2011 in the cellar brewery of the Rat & Ratchet in Huddersfield, it is now made in Ossett and is the company's main beer. A nitrogen-dispensed version of the same recipe pours creamier and softer.

Serve at 7–10°C

Cold enough to sharpen the hop aroma without numbing the palate. Around 7–9°C keeps the citrus and pine vivid without losing bitterness definition.
