Flying Saucer

Tap to rate

Rich and full-bodied, with the toasted and roasted malt flavours of a traditional stout carried at a strength well above an ordinary one. European hops hold the bitter line without adding aroma of their own, and the colour runs dark brown into black. Flying Saucer came out of the first Kinnegar Brewing Academy, a course the brewery ran for its own staff, and stayed in the range afterwards.

A subtle note of cocoa and a hint of licorice round out the aromatic profile, suggesting careful balance between fermentation and malt selection.

◐ Taste

The palate is full-bodied and rich, with toasted malt flavors delivering layers of bitter chocolate, burnt sugar, and a faint molasses sweetness. The bitterness from European hops emerges cleanly in the mid-palate without dominating, holding at 40 IBU to allow the malt complexity to remain in focus. The finish is dry and slightly astringent, with a lingering roasted character that extends the drinking experience.
