Hubertus Herrnpils

Tap to rate

A Pils with a gentleman's name and a wink in its slogan: the slogan says it is not only a beer for men. It shines in a luminous colour, is hopped with Saaz hops and spends a long time maturing. Like every Hubertus beer it follows the classic method with a cold-led main fermentation, using malt from Lower Austria and Burgenland and water from the brewery's own well in Laa an der Thaya.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with the classic Saaz hop character—floral, slightly herbal, and gently spicy notes that are refined rather than assertive. Beneath the hops lies a soft malt foundation with hints of grain sweetness and a touch of bread crust. The extended lagering has polished these elements into a harmonious, inviting bouquet free from yeast esters or sulphury notes.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with a crisp, well-balanced malt backbone that provides substance without heaviness. Saaz hops deliver a measured bitterness (38 IBU) that integrates smoothly into the body, lending a subtle spicy and herbal finish to the mid-palate. The beer maintains a dry, clean character throughout, with the malt supporting the hop profile rather than competing with it.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium-length and refreshing, trailing off with a gentle herbal dryness from the Saaz hops. A subtle grain sweetness lingers briefly before giving way to a clean, mineral dryness that invites the next sip.

Serve at 4–7°C

Serve well-chilled at 4–6°C for maximum crispness. A pilsner served too warm loses its defining snap.

Pilsner glass

The tall, narrow pilsner glass preserves carbonation and showcases the golden clarity that defines the style.

Drink fresh and cold. Pilsners do not improve with age — within 3 months of packaging is ideal.

Finding a similar German Pilsner

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same noble-hop, malty, crisp character as Hubertus Herrnpils will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
