Hofbräuhaus Traunstein Weißbier

Tap to rate

Complex fruit aromas and a full fruit character, carried by a soft yeast bloom and the brewery's own yeast strain. This was the first beer of Hofbräuhaus Traunstein: it was founded in 1612 as a pure wheat beer brewery, after Elector Maximilian I created a Weißbier monopoly that obliged innkeepers to serve it alongside brown beer. Refreshing, 5.5 % ABV.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced banana and clove—classic phenolic markers of the house yeast strain. Beneath these sit soft wheat notes and a delicate stone-fruit character that suggests ripe pear and peach. The overall impression is fruity and complex, never harsh or chemical.

Serve at 5–8°C

Slightly warmer than a lager — 8–12°C allows the banana and clove esters from the yeast to fully develop.

Weizen glass

Tall and narrow at the base, flaring at the top — designed to hold the abundant foam of a wheat beer while showcasing its hazy golden body.

Best fresh. The yeast-driven banana and clove character fades over time. Drink within 4 months.
