Fürstentrunk

Tap to rate

A pale Festbier with full hop aroma, light sunny malt tones and a higher original gravity. Fritz Sailer and brewmaster Heinrich Steiner first brewed it in the early 1950s, when a good strong beer was possible again after the thin wartime brews. In the 1960s it was nicknamed the Heimgehbier, the last one before the walk home. It lagers for three to four months in dark, cool cellars. 5.7 % ABV.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with prominent noble hop character—floral and slightly herbal notes that define the beer's aromatic profile. Below sits a warm, grainy Malz sweetness with bready undertones, reminiscent of fresh-baked bread crust. A faint fruity note from the lager yeast adds subtle complexity without asserting itself.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with a smooth, full-bodied malt foundation that carries sun-warmed grain sweetness across the middle. Noble hop bitterness emerges gradually—restrained but clean at 22 IBU—balancing the Malz richness without harsh edges. The finish remains dry and crisp, with lingering hop minerality and a touch of bready warmth.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste is crisp and moderately long, fading into a pleasant dry sensation with faint noble hop spice and grain minerality. The higher original gravity leaves a satisfying warmth that justifies its reputation as a proper 'Heimgehbier'—a beer that walks you home.
