Berg Hefeweizen

Tap to rate

A cloudy wheat beer whose character comes mainly from its yeast: fruity, yeast-forward and refreshing. The grist combines malted wheat and barley with a caramel wheat malt, hopped with Tettnanger Perle alone. Fermentation takes place in an open vat, where the foam is lifted off and the top-fermenting yeast is skimmed with a large perforated ladle and passed on to the next brew. Original gravity is 12.7 percent.

AI-generated sensory profile for Berg Hefeweizen

◎ Appearance

A pale straw-golden hue dominated by a fine, even turbidity from the suspended yeast. The dense, creamy head builds quickly and maintains strong lacing on the glass, characteristic of the style's protein and yeast content. Carbonation appears moderate and well-integrated, creating a soft, pillowy foam structure.

◌ Aroma

The nose is distinctly yeast-driven, with prominent notes of ripe banana and subtle clove that emerge from the top-fermenting strain's metabolic profile. Beneath lies a soft, bready maltiness from the wheat and caramel malt base, complemented by a whisper of herbal Tettnanger character that never dominates. The overall impression is clean and approachable rather than spicy or funky.

◐ Taste

Entry is soft and slightly sweet, with the caramel malt contributing a gentle roundness. Mid-palate unfolds with classic wheat beer texture—smooth and full-bodied—while the yeast-derived esters reinforce fruity notes without overshadowing the malt foundation. Bitterness is restrained at 14 IBU, allowing sweetness and esters to take the lead; Tettnanger adds only a faint herbal finish without any aggressive sharpness.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and dry despite the residual sweetness, fading quickly with a lingering trace of clove and herbal note. No harsh tannins or astringency—just a refreshing, slightly dry aftertaste that invites another sip.

Serve at 5–8°C

Slightly warmer than a lager — 8–12°C allows the banana and clove esters from the yeast to fully develop.

Weizen glass

Tall and narrow at the base, flaring at the top — designed to hold the abundant foam of a wheat beer while showcasing its hazy golden body.

Best fresh. The yeast-driven banana and clove character fades over time. Drink within 4 months.
