Berg 3-Korn Hefeweizen

Tap to rate

A dark, top-fermented organic wheat beer brewed from three grains: wheat, barley and spelt. The body is full and strong, with malty depth, a spicy edge and nutty nuances contributed by the spelt, rounded off by a restrained floral hop note from Tettnanger aroma hops. It ferments in an open vat; the yeast is skimmed off by hand and passed on to the following brew. The barley comes from organic fields on the Swabian Jura. Original gravity is 12.7 percent.

◐ Taste

The palate enters full and rounded, with the three-grain malt profile delivering both softness and depth. Spelt contributes a distinctive nutty character that sits alongside the bread-forward maltiness of wheat and barley. The 15 IBU contribute only restrained bitterness; instead, the Tettnanger hops offer a subtle floral dryness that keeps the beer from becoming cloying.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium-length with a lingering malty sweetness balanced by the gentle hop dryness. The spice notes fade slowly, leaving behind a warm, grainy character that invites another sip.
