🌍 Canada · Helles Lager · One of 143 Helles Lagers in hopIQ

A helles that sets gentle beechwood smoke against Bavarian base malt and Saaz hops, at 4.5% with no IBU published. Four Winds brewed it as a nod to Godspeed Brewery, which it names as its reference point for restraint in smoked beer. The smoke is meant to stay a seasoning rather than become the subject. Like the other Pils Pack beers it is now also sold separately.

AI-generated sensory profile for Smoked Helles

Aroma

Beechwood smoke emerges first as a subtle seasoning—restrained and integrated rather than dominating. Beneath it lies the soft, honeyed character of Bavarian base malt and the delicate herbal-floral notes of Saaz hops. The overall nose is balanced and clean, with the smoke acting as a gentle frame rather than the focal point.

Taste

The palate opens with a light, crisp malt foundation touched by the warm, slightly peppery undertone of smoke. Saaz hops provide a gentle nobility and mild herbal bite without assertive bitterness. The body is lean and clean, allowing each element—malt sweetness, smoke character, and noble hop spice—to remain distinct yet harmonious.

Finish

The finish is dry and refreshing, with the smoke lingering briefly as a peppery whisper before fading into a crisp, slightly sweet malt memory. Aftertaste is clean and inviting, encouraging another sip.
