Lichtervelds Blond

Belgium·Belgian Strong Golden Ale
Tap to rate

A revived local beer: once 'Blonde des Flandres' from De Hoop in Lichtervelde, now brewed by De Dolle in Esen at the request of the local history society Karel Van de Poele and on sale since 1990 for the biennial folklore festival. Soft malt, a hint of citrus and discreet hops in the aroma, round and full for a blond beer, then a fairly long, dry finish with subtle warmth. Unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Round and full on entry, with mellow malt sweetness balanced by a clean, drying bitterness that builds gradually. The mid-palate remains smooth and vollmundig, while spicy yeast-derived notes weave through, leading into a pronounced dry finish with gentle warming alcohol.

Warmer than most — 12–14°C. The fruity esters, spice and warming alcohol need room to breathe.

Goblet

The wide mouth and heavy base promote head formation and channel rich aromatics toward the nose. Traditional for Belgian strong ales.
