Abbotsford Invalid Stout

Tap to rate

Abbotsford Invalid Stout is named after the Melbourne suburb where CUB's main brewery stands and after the old belief that stout strengthened the sick; the name dates from 1909. It smells of dark chocolate and coffee, close to mocha, with a hint of treacle that carries onto the palate. Smooth malt sweetness comes first, followed by burnt-malt notes, a savoury, yeasty edge and a firm but rounded bitterness. At 5.2 per cent it is a milder example of the style than the stronger export versions.
