HOPIQ SCORE

The Best Vietnamese Lagers

10 beers from 4 breweries · Ranked by style authenticity — not marketing

These rankings are dynamic. As more people rate, match and like beers on hopIQ, community signals will increasingly shape the results alongside style authenticity and award recognition.

Vietnamese lager is inseparable from Bia Hoi — the fresh, low-ABV draught lager brewed daily, delivered by bicycle to street-side plastic-stool cafés, and consumed within 24 hours. Bia Hoi is arguably the cheapest beer in the world by volume and is a defining part of Hanoi and northern-Vietnamese urban life. It is also a technically demanding style: unpasteurised, unfiltered, brewed fast, and dependent on same-day distribution to taste right.

The hopIQ ranking captures the mainstream too: Bia Saigon, 333 (Ba Ba Ba), Huda, and Halida — pale industrial lagers with a French colonial heritage and, increasingly, a modern Vietnamese craft scene layered on top. Pasteur Street Brewing in Ho Chi Minh City and Heart of Darkness in Ho Chi Minh City lead a new Vietnamese craft lager wave that brews Helles and Pilsner to international precision — a direction that would have been unimaginable a decade ago.

How this ranking works
The hopIQ Score weights style authenticity (80%), user engagement (10%), notability (10%), and award history. Active, in-production beers only — non-alcoholic excluded. No paid placement — order follows the data alone. Ranking spans 10 beers from 4 breweries.
