The Alchemist
The Alchemist was founded in 2003 by John and Jen Kimmich as a 60-seat brewpub in Waterbury, Vermont. In 2004, John Kimmich developed Heady Topper, a double IPA that is widely credited as one of the beers that defined the New England IPA style. After Tropical Storm Irene flooded and destroyed The Alchemist Pub in 2011, the Kimmichs pivoted to canning, launching a production brewery in Waterbury and eventually opening a second brewery and visitor center in Stowe in 2016. Today The Alchemist operates in both Waterbury and Stowe, distributing Heady Topper and Focal Banger exclusively within Vermont.
