Robinsons is a family-owned brewer from Stockport, run by the sixth generation. William Robinson bought the Unicorn Inn on Lower Hillgate in 1838, and his son George brewed the first Robinsons ale there in 1849. The firm took over neighbouring breweries, among them Hartleys of Ulverston in 1982, and runs roughly 250 pubs across North West England and North Wales. After 187 years there, brewing moved in 2025 to a new brewhouse in the Bredbury district. The range runs from bitter to lager and the strong ale Old Tom; since 2013 Robinsons has also brewed the Trooper beers with Iron Maiden.
