Forschungsbrauerei München
Engineer and chemist Gottfried Jakob opened the Forschungsbrauerei in Altperlach, in the south-east of Munich, in 1930 to test new brewing methods and beer types; more than fifty patents go back to his work. In 1936 he added the Bräustüberl as a testing station where guests rather than experts judged the beer. The copper brewhouse in the tower has been out of use since 2018 and remains as an industrial monument. Since 2021 a craft brewery based on the site brews Jakob's traditional recipes again on its own equipment, using certified organic ingredients.
