Kees Koot bought his first brewing kit in Zutphen in 1992; in 2008 he founded Dampegheest with his brother Rinus and friend Herman Zomerdijk in Limmen's former cheese warehouse. A self-built 2,000-litre brewhouse of dairy-industry tanks, run on in-house software, now makes the beers, and Kees's son Perry joined in 2017. The name comes from Huize Dampegheest, a fortified manor nearby until 1846; its silhouette is in the logo.
