Wimitz IPA

Tap to rate

Copper-coloured with a natural yeast haze. The scent is exotically sweet with tangerine, grapefruit and pineapple; on the palate it is very full-bodied with a pronounced bitterness and notes of blood orange and mango. Repeated cold hopping in the tank shapes the exotic character, and besides other organic hop varieties the brewery uses organic Cascade green hops from its own fields. Its nickname is the evil ale, 'Das böse Ale'.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Wimitz IPA

◎ Appearance

Copper hue with visible natural yeast haze throughout the glass. The head forms with moderate density and shows good retention, leaving fine lacing on the walls. Bright carbonation lifts the suspended yeast particles, creating a soft, cloudy appearance.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with exotic citrus and stone fruit—tangerine, grapefruit, and fresh pineapple jump forward immediately. Beneath lies a sweetness from the malt base, balanced by herbaceous and resinous notes from repeated dry-hopping with Cascade and organic varieties. The overall character is bright and inviting, with no harsh or sulphorous edges.

◐ Taste

Full-bodied entry with a citrus-forward sweetness that develops into ripe stone fruit—blood orange and mango dominate the mid-palate. Bitterness builds steadily without harshness, integrating cleanly with the fruit character rather than overshadowing it. The finish maintains hop-driven clarity while the malt provides backbone and slight residual sweetness.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste is dry and clean, with lingering citrus bitterness that fades gradually over several minutes. A gentle warmth from the 6.5% ABV remains in the background.

Serve at 8–11°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.

About IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same citrusy, tropical, full-bodied character as Wimitz IPA will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
