Cryo

Tap to rate

A hazy pale ale built around cryogenically processed hop pellets, in which the lupulin is separated from the leaf material to concentrate aroma. Cryo Citra, Cryo Cascade and Cryo Centennial are joined by HBC 586; the beer is heavily hopped yet low in bitterness, smooth and juicy, with mango, papaya, lychee and citrus. Fermented with the brewery's house ale yeast, it is the 4.2% session pale of the six-beer core range, sold in cans and on draught.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with tropical stone fruit—mango, papaya, and lychee—layered over bright citrus notes from the cryogenically processed hops. Beneath this fruit-forward profile sits a soft maltiness that grounds the beer without asserting itself. The house yeast contributes subtle fruity esters that complement rather than dominate.

◐ Taste

The palate opens smooth and juicy, with the tropical and citrus hop character translating directly from the nose into a cohesive mid-palate. Bitterness remains restrained despite the heavy hopping—the cryogenic process and low IBU count keep the finish clean and dry. The underlying Malz provides gentle sweetness and body without heaviness.

◑ Finish

The finish is relatively short and clean, with hop character fading to leave a dry, slightly citric aftertaste. No lingering sweetness or bitterness intrudes.

What is a Hazy Pale Ale?

Pale Ales balance malt sweetness with moderate hop character at 4.5–6% ABV and IBU 20–40. Approachable with floral, citrus or earthy notes over a biscuit malt base.

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same hazy, hoppy, juicy character as Cryo will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
