Stone & Wood Big Pale Ale

Tap to rate

This beer followed in 2024 under the name Hinterland Big Pale as the second beer of the brewery's all-Australian hop series, first as a limited edition and now as a permanent full-strength pale ale. The malt profile is kept deliberately low so that Eclipse and Vic Secret carry the beer. The aroma shows mandarin and pineapple with lighter notes of lime, ginger and pine. On the palate it is citrusy, juicy and lightly tropical, with a solid body and a balanced finish.

◐ Taste

Entry is juicy and citrus-forward, with the thin malt bill allowing the hop character to develop openly across the palate. Flavors of orange and tropical fruit carry through the mid-palate, balanced by a moderate bitterness that doesn't overwhelm. The body is fuller than the restrained malt suggests, providing structure and weight despite the deliberate brewing choice.

◑ Finish

The finish is notably dry, with bittering hop compounds lingering cleanly on the palate without astringency. The aftertaste fades to a crisp, refreshing dryness that invites the next sip.
