◎ Appearance

Deep amber-brown hue fills the glass with excellent clarity and a stable, cream-coloured head that clings to the walls with fine Schaumhaftung. Moderate carbonation rises steadily from the base, maintaining visual liveliness without aggression. The colour sits at the richer end of the dubbel spectrum, suggesting generous caramel Malz and well-developed malt complexity.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with caramelised Malz and dried plum, supported by hints of brown sugar and subtle chocolate undertones. A delicate spice note—characteristic of the Saint Sixtus yeast strain—emerges on the second nose, alongside gentle clove and light toasted grain. The aromatic profile remains approachable and inviting, without aggressive alcohol or hot esters.

◐ Taste

The palate arrives with rounded malt sweetness and a medium-full body that feels substantial yet balanced. Dark fruit flavours—plum and raisin—weave through the mid-palate alongside caramel, chocolate, and gentle spice, building a layered mouthfeel. Moderate carbonation and restrained bitterness (22 IBU) allow the Malz character to dominate; the finish turns dry and clean without astringency.

◑ Finish

The finish is medium in length with a gentle dry edge that cleanses the palate without harshness. A faint warming note from the 8% ABV lingers pleasantly, allowing dark fruit and caramel notes to fade naturally into a soft, malty aftertaste.

Serve at 10–12°C for the best flavour balance and aroma expression.

The wide mouth and heavy base promote head formation and channel rich aromatics toward the nose. Traditional for Belgian strong ales.
