Mad Goose

Tap to rate

Mad Goose is a light copper pale ale named after a fearsome goose that lived on the farm. Pale, crystal and cara malts lay down biscuit and light caramel, over which Pilgrim, Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops bring lemon and grapefruit zest with a slightly resinous edge. The brewery calls it zesty, with a smooth and citrusy finish; the bitterness is firm for the strength and leaves the beer dry rather than sweet. It reached the best bitter final of the Champion Beer of Britain in 2014.

◐ Taste

Entry is smooth and slightly sweet, with bready, malty foundations from pale, crystal and cara malts. The mid-palate develops firm bitterness and citrus hop character—grapefruit and lemon—with a drying resinous quality. Serve at 7–10°C

Cold enough to sharpen the hop aroma without numbing the palate. Around 7–9°C keeps the citrus and pine vivid without losing bitterness definition.

Pint glass

The classic — versatile, comfortable to hold and keeps the beer cool. No frills, no distractions: just the beer.

Drink fresh — hop aroma fades fast. Best within 3 months of canning or bottling.
