🌍 Australia · Cold IPA · One of 6 Cold IPAs in hopIQ

Brewed for the brewery's fifth birthday, the Cold IPA is mashed and fermented cold like a lager but hopped like an IPA. The result is a crisp, lean body with none of the malt sweetness that usually cushions the hops, so Eclipse, Idaho 7 and Galaxy come through clearly: tropical fruit, sweet mandarin and fresh pine needle over a firm bitterness at 44 IBU.

Aroma

The nose leads with bright tropical stone fruit—mandarin and tangerine dominate—layered with fresh pine and subtle resinous notes from Eclipse and Idaho 7. Galaxy contributes an additional note of juicy citrus sweetness. The overall impression is clean and hop-forward, with minimal malt presence to distract.

Taste

Entry is crisp and lean, with the cold fermentation lending a lager-like body despite the assertive hop profile. Mid-palate delivers the promised galaxy and tropical character—orange zest, white grapefruit, and needle-like pine bitterness build steadily. The 44 IBU sits firm and clean without astringency, underpinned by minimal malt sweetness to provide cushion.

Finish

The finish is dry and quick, with the bitterness trailing into a clean, slightly resinous aftertaste. No lingering sweetness or warming alcohol; instead, a refreshing pine and citrus dryness persists on the palate.
