JHB

Tap to rate

Jeffrey Hudson Bitter was the first beer Oakham brewed in 1993 and is named after a courtier born in the town. Light gold and smooth, it opens with a citrus-led aroma and a light herbal hop note from Mount Hood and Challenger, followed by a soft pale-malt middle and a dry, hoppy finish. The brewery has raised the hop rate considerably over the years, so today's beer is more heavily hopped than the original recipe. Cask strength is 3.8 %, the bottle 4.2 %.

◐ Taste

The palate opens softly with pale-malt sweetness that builds gently through the mid-section without becoming cloying. The elevated hop rate introduces a measured bitterness that gains presence as the beer develops, balanced by the beer's low ABV and modest body. The combination of citrus and herbal notes follows through from the nose, creating coherence between aroma and flavor.
