Lindemans Tarot Noir

Tap to rate

Named for the tarot craze of the Belle Époque, Tarot Noir is one of Lindemans' first high-alcohol fruit beers: spontaneously fermented lambic blended with top-fermented Belgian strong ale and enriched with blackcurrants, elderberries and blueberries. Ripe black cherries lead the dark-fruit nose; the palate is juicy and full-bodied with forest berries, lively acidity and a smooth, dry finish without bitterness. 8 % ABV, under 35 g sugar per litre.

◎ Appearance

Deep garnet to near-black in the glass, with excellent clarity despite the fruit adjuncts. The head forms a fine, persistent cream-colored collar that clings to the glass wall with notable lacing. Carbonation is moderate and well-integrated, suggesting a restrained effervescence appropriate to the beer's complex fruit profile.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens immediately with ripe black cherry and dark-berry aromatics, complemented by blackcurrant and elderberry top notes. A subtle vinous quality emerges from the spontaneous fermentation, balanced by a whisper of stone fruit and spice from the Belgian ale component. No sharp acidity dominates; instead, the aromatic profile remains round and inviting.

◐ Taste

Entry is juicy and full-bodied, with forest-berry fruit spreading across the mid-palate in layers of blackberry, blueberry, and black cherry. The spontaneous fermentation contributes a lively, structured acidity that cuts through the sweetness without becoming sharp. Bitterness is nearly absent; instead, a gentle tannin grip from the fruit provides structure and a bone-dry conclusion.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste is clean and lingering, with dark-fruit echoes receding into a dry, fruit-tannin dryness. No clinging sweetness or harsh bitterness remains—only a refreshing, slightly astringent fade that invites another sip.
