IPAF

Tap to rate

Bigger, bolder, hoppier is the pitch for this 7.2 % IPA, a tropical-citrus explosion fueled by Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, Citra, Moutere, Galaxy, Eclipse and Cryofresh Mosaic, plus a Citra Hyperboost blast in the bright tank. Lagunitas itself began on a kitchen stove in Northern California in 1993. Since 2015 Heineken has been a Lagunitas owner, first with half of the company and from May 2017 with all of it.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with bright tropical fruit—pineapple, passion fruit, and ripe mango—layered over pithy grapefruit and tangerine zest. A resinous, almost herbal undertone emerges beneath the fruit, with subtle stone fruit notes and a clean, grassy backdrop that speaks to the blend of noble hops. The aroma is forthright and aromatic without muddiness.

◐ Taste

Entry is crisp and fruit-forward, with bold tropical and citrus notes unfolding immediately across the palate. Mid-palate shows balanced bitterness—clean and assertive rather than harsh—underscored by a light resinous quality and hints of orange rind. The malt foundation is present but restrained, allowing the hop character to dominate without astringency.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and lingering, with citrus oils and a peppery resinous fade persisting well into the aftertaste. Bitterness tapers gracefully without becoming cloying or overly bitter.

Serve at 8–11°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.
