Keltenbier

Tap to rate

Strongly malty and mildly hopped, with a sweet malt note and a lively, prickling carbonation. The naturally cloudy Keltenbier is brewed from somewhat darker malt than the other Hubertus lagers. It comes from Laa an der Thaya, from malt grown in Lower Austria and Burgenland and water from the brewery's own 238-metre well.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with soft, sweet malt character derived from the darker grain bill, offering notes of bread crust and gentle caramel. Noble hops provide a restrained herbal and slightly spicy undertone, while the yeast contributes a clean, fresh profile without any sharp or solvent-like notes. The overall impression is malt-forward and inviting rather than assertive.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with pronounced malty sweetness that carries through the mid-palate with hints of soft grain and a faint caramel undertone. Bitterness from the Edelhopfen remains modest at 25 IBUs, providing balance rather than dominance and allowing the Malz character to remain prominent. The lively carbonation adds a prickling sensation that enlivens the overall drinking experience without overwhelming the subtle flavor layers.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and relatively short, fading to a gentle sweetness with just a whisper of herbal hops lingering. The carbonation's prickle persists pleasantly through the aftertaste, leaving the palate refreshed and ready for another sip.
