🌍 Germany · Bock · One of 70 Bocks in hopIQ

G.O.A.T. opens the seasonal year at Eschenbräu in Berlin-Wedding and was tapped in January of both 2025 and 2026. It is a bottom-fermented bock built around its hops: the brewery adds them in the kettle, again in the whirlpool and once more in the conditioning tank, so the aroma grows from a mild start into a fuller hop nose. The Czech Most variety made its house debut in this beer. Brewed from 16 °P original gravity to 6.0 % ABV and served unfiltered from the tank.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens gently with soft herbal and spiced notes from the Most hops, then develops into a fuller, more assertive hop character across the glass. Beneath lies a clean malt base with light biscuit and subtle caramel sweetness. No phenolic or yeast-driven esters intrude; the brewhouse character remains restrained and lets the sequential hop additions speak.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with rounded malt sweetness and a gentle grain body that fills the mouth without heaviness. Hop bitterness arrives mid-palate with a dry, resinous edge—restrained enough not to override the Bock's traditional character. The finish dries progressively, allowing the herbal and slightly earthy hop notes to linger without astringency.

◑ Finish

The aftertaste extends with a clean, lingering dryness and subtle herb notes. No warming alcohol presence despite the 6% ABV; instead, a refreshing, slightly astringent hop character carries through to a crisp close.
