Great Minds

Tap to rate

Coconut and coffee in a thick imperial stout at 13.0%, brewed with barley malt and oats and hopped with Warrior and Northern Brewer to 45 IBU. Great Minds is a 2023 collaboration with Folkingebrew and Bravoure and was the first imperial stout on Frontaal's new brewing equipment, almost so thick, in the brewery's words, that you could eat it with a spoon.

◎ Appearance

Deep black-brown color with an opaque, impenetrable body that justifies the brewery's claim of spoon-thick consistency. A dense, tan foam head forms with excellent retention and lacing that clings to the glass. Minimal carbonation is visible, emphasizing the beer's weighty, viscous character.

◐ Taste

Entry delivers full-bodied, silken malt sweetness with pronounced coffee and cocoa notes that coat the palate. The mid-palate is rich and smooth, with gentle roast bitterness from Warrior and Northern Brewer hops balancing the residual sweetness without overwhelming it. Oats contribute a soft, almost creamy texture that enhances the overall smoothness.
