🌍 Australia · Hazy IPA · One of 97 Hazy IPAs in hopIQ

A hazy IPA at 6.0 percent with a soft, wheat-thickened body and a heavy late hop charge. Candied orange, mango and passionfruit run through both the nose and the palate, with a light draught of bitterness underneath rather than a hard edge. It arrived in 2019 as the highest-placed new beer in the GABS poll and has since taken gold for modern IPA in four separate years.

Taste

Entry is smooth and fruit-driven, with mango and citrus taking immediate precedence on the mid-palate. The wheat base lends a juicy, full texture that resists drying. Bitterness emerges as a restrained undercurrent rather than a sharp edge, balancing the tropical sweetness without overwhelming it.

About Hazy IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a Hazy IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar Hazy IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same hazy, hoppy, tropical character as Balter Hazy will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
