Isted

Tap to rate

Isted is an imperial stout with coffee. It is brewed with a double mash of English and German malts and oats, in a wort production that runs eighteen hours with a very long boil for concentration, and then cold-conditioned on specialty coffee from Bahia, Brazil. The beer is black, extremely dense and almost still, with a full, oily, velvety body. Almond and caramel from the beans meet roasted malt and a suggestion of dark chocolate.

◎ Appearance

Isted presents as an opaque jet black, with minimal light transmission through its dense body. The head is thin and ephemeral, dissipating quickly to reveal almost no carbonation—the surface sits nearly still, emphasizing the beer's weighty, viscous character. Lacing clings faintly to the glass in sparse traces.

The aroma is rich and layered, neither sharply hoppy nor perfumed.

Roasted coffee and dark chocolate dominate the mid-palate, merging with caramel sweetness and a subtle nuttiness from the oats and specialty malts.
