Hopfen

Tap to rate

Hopfen is a harvest Pils brewed with whole-cone Perle, Mittelfrüh and Tettnanger that were dried right after picking. The brewery team travels to Tettnang during the hop harvest and brings the cones back less than twenty-four hours after drying. The beer is pale and unfiltered, delicately bitter, herbal and floral, with a light honey note.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Hopfen

◎ Appearance

Pale straw yellow with brilliant clarity and a fine, persistent white head that builds and recedes in measured waves. The unfiltered character shows admirable brightness despite the absence of fining, while steady carbonation rises in delicate streams. Lacing clings cleanly to the glass in thin, deliberate strokes.

◌ Aroma

Fresh herbal and floral notes dominate, led by the distinctive pepper and mint character of Tettnanger balanced against the earthier, grassy profile of Mittelfrüh. The whole-cone drying preserves a subtle green-stem freshness alongside whispers of chamomile and a light honeyed sweetness that sits beneath. Malt presents as clean and restrained, allowing the noble hops to command the nose.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with a soft malt sweetness before the noble hops arrive with delicate, refined bitterness—clean and herbal rather than aggressive. Mid-palate holds a gentle tension between the underlying honey note and the lingering herbal-floral grip, with no harsh edges. The finish remains dry without becoming austere, the bitterness resolving into a fading botanical whisper.

◑ Finish

Medium-length, with the herbal and floral notes fading gradually into a clean, slightly spicy aftertaste. The bitterness recedes rather than lingers, leaving the palate refreshed and ready for another sip.

Serve at 4–7°C

Serve well-chilled at 4–6°C for maximum crispness. A pilsner served too warm loses its defining snap.

Pilsner glass

The tall, narrow pilsner glass preserves carbonation and showcases the golden clarity that defines the style.

Drink fresh and cold. Pilsners do not improve with age — within 3 months of packaging is ideal.

About German Pilsner

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a German Pilsner?

Pilsners are crisp golden lagers with 4–5.5% ABV and IBU 25–45. Defined by spicy, floral Saaz hops over a light malt backbone — bright carbonation and a dry bitter finish.

Finding a similar German Pilsner

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same floral, herbal, bitter character as Hopfen will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
