Nearly opaque dark brown to black in the glass, with minimal light transmission characteristic of the style. The creamy tan head builds generously and persists with good adhesion, leaving distinct lacing on the glass as the beer recedes. Carbonation appears moderate, appropriate for the full-bodied structure.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with dark malt character—roasted grains, cocoa, and subtle burnt notes emerge from the grain bill. Licorice and molasses undertones develop from the deep kilning, underpinned by mild herbal and earthy notes from the moderate hop charge. The overall aromatic profile is restrained and complex rather than aggressive.

◐ Geschmack

The palate opens with a full, creamy malt foundation that carries notes of dark caramel, black licorice, and subtle ashy complexity from the dark malts. Medium bitterness (30 IBUs) arrives mid-palate without harshness, balancing the sweetness and adding structural definition. The finish is clean and slightly dry, with lingering grain tannins and a whisper of herbal spice.

The aftertaste extends moderately, with licorice and roasted grain notes persisting alongside mild hop bitterness. Warmth from the 6% ABV remains subtle and integrated, never hot or cloying.
