WEST Brewery
WEST opened in March 2006 in the Templeton Building on Glasgow Green, a former carpet factory whose façade is modelled on the Doge's Palace in Venice. Founder Petra Wetzel grew up in Bavaria and stayed in Glasgow after her studies; every WEST beer is brewed to the Reinheitsgebot of 1516. After the operating company went into administration, Wetzel bought it back in 2008. A new brewhouse on the same site opened in 2016 with a capacity of around 25,000 hectolitres a year, and since 2019 an employee trust has held shares in the company.
