Welde Brauerei traces its origins to 1752, when Elector Carl Theodor granted a brewing license to master brewer Heinrich Joos in Schwetzingen. The brewery took the Welde name in 1888 when master brewer Johann Welde married the widow of the previous owner, and the family has maintained brewing traditions for nine generations. In 1981, the brewery relocated its brewhouse to the neighboring municipality of Plankstadt. Today Weldebräu GmbH & Co. KG is an independent private brewery in Plankstadt with an annual production of around 100,000 hectoliters.
