Rye River Brewing Company was founded in November 2013 by Niall Phelan, Alan Wolfe and Tom Cronin. It first brewed in Kilcock and later moved to a larger site on the Dublin Road in Celbridge, County Kildare, which has been open to visitors since 2017. The business began with the McGargles brand; since 2021 its everyday beers carry the brewery's own name, alongside a small-batch seasonal line and several ranges brewed for Irish retailers. Germany's Warsteiner Group took a minority stake in December 2022.
