In 1824 the brewer Johann Philipp Ledermann brought a Gose recipe from Goslar to the manor of Döllnitz near Halle, whose brewhouse became the main supplier of the style to Leipzig. The site was dismantled in 1945 and the beer disappeared. Tilo Jänichen revived the brand in 1999, working from yeast and lactic cultures recovered from an old crate of original bottles. The company is based in Frohburg; since 2015 all beers have been brewed at the Bergt family's Reichenbrand works in Chemnitz, using open fermentation, long cold maturation and no pasteurisation.
