Privatbrauerei Ketterer was founded in 1877 when the young Michael Ketterer purchased the small inn brewery known as Zum Felsen in Hornberg in the Black Forest, despite considerable local scepticism. After Michael Ketterer's death in 1925, his sons Emil and Albert took over and expanded the business. Today the brewery, formally named Familienbrauerei M. Ketterer GmbH & Co. KG, operates in the Ortenaukreis district of Baden-Württemberg and produces a range of beers from Ketterer Pils to a Black Forest Stout.
