Mecklenburgische Brauerei Lübz GmbH — also marketed under the Lübzer brand — was founded in 1877 by August Krüger in Lübz, Mecklenburg. After World War II, production resumed in 1947 and a new facility was constructed in 1969, at which point the brewery was incorporated into the East German state combine as VEB Brauerei Lübz, operating the only beer canning line in the GDR. Following reunification, Holsten Brewery acquired and modernised the plant; Holsten was itself acquired by the Carlsberg Group in 2004. The brewery currently produces around 1.1 million hectolitres per year and is best known for Lübzer Pils.
